The family of a tourist who disappeared from a Caribbean island is heading back home after an extensive search. Elizabeth Waddell, a 44-year-old from the US, was last spotted on July 22 leaving her beachfront Airbnb on Grenada to take a swim at Grand Anse Beach. Despite being seen swimming near a jetty, she vanished, prompting concerns. Her friend Heather raised the alarm after a possible sighting at 5:30 pm. Elizabeth’s husband, Cailen, announced that the family would be returning to the US after exhausting their efforts in Grenada.
The family expressed gratitude for the support received and requested continued sharing of information about Elizabeth. Cailen praised the press for raising awareness about his wife’s disappearance and thanked the people of Grenada for their warmth and concern. Additionally, donors who contributed to the family’s search efforts were acknowledged.
In a heartfelt tribute, Cailen shared memories of his relationship with Elizabeth, highlighting her adventurous spirit. He mentioned that their Instagram accounts and Elizabeth’s YouTube channels best reflected her personality. The ongoing investigation into her disappearance in Grenada has not indicated foul play, according to authorities.
Friends and family mobilized search efforts upon Elizabeth’s non-return from her swim. Authorities, including the Grenada Coast Guard, divers, and canine units, have been combing the island’s southern coastline. The FBI and the US Embassy have also been alerted. The investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding Elizabeth’s disappearance.
