A woman from Essex, Angela Ward, felt stifled and unnoticed in the UK, prompting her to sell most of her belongings to start fresh in another country. With determination for a brighter life, Angela bought a one-way ticket, packed her life into two suitcases, and embarked on a journey without a definite plan. She described this leap of faith as the best decision she’s ever made.
Angela shared with What’s The Jam that she left everything behind except two suitcases, her passport, bank cards, and a portable business. Feeling invisible and financially strained in the UK, the 57-year-old made a drastic change. Despite having achieved academic success and a high-paying job as an NHS consultant, she faced mounting debt and diminishing savings, eventually leading to a breakdown in 2023.
Struggling with financial pressure and fears of homelessness, Angela decided to sell her property to alleviate the situation. However, delays in selling the house and unsuccessful job searches added to her challenges. After a pivotal moment when her dog passed away, Angela opted to keep her home, rent it out, and simplify her life by selling off possessions.
In December 2025, Angela left the UK for Cyprus, where she now resides. She has been sharing her journey on Instagram and has written a book to inspire others to change their mindset. Angela is focused on helping people move away from survival mode and embrace a new way of living. Despite initial shock, her friends have been supportive of her decision, emphasizing that letting go of material possessions has brought her a sense of freedom and a fresh perspective on life.
