“UK Widow Seeks Justice for Air India Crash Tragedy”

A mother from the UK, who faced a tragic loss in the Air India Flight 171 crash, shared her anguish and quest for “justice” close to a year after the fatal incident. Among the 242 victims who perished when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel just 32 seconds after takeoff on June 21, 2025, were fifty-three Britons. Concerns have been raised by families over the lack of transparency in the Indian Air Accidents Investigation Branch’s inquiry into the aviation disaster.

Bhavika Patel, a 38-year-old mother of two, lost her husband and mother-in-law in the crash and expressed her desire for answers about the events leading to the tragedy. Bhavika, who ran a shop in London with her late husband, now grapples with managing her business and caring for her children alone. She recounted her disbelief over her husband’s sudden absence, yearning for closure and justice.

Despite receiving £21,000 in compensation, Bhavika highlighted her financial struggles in meeting her children’s needs for additional classes and the desire for some respite. She lamented the lack of assistance beyond financial compensation from Air India, particularly in the retrieval of her family’s belongings misplaced in the crash aftermath.

Reflecting on the emotional toll of losing her husband and mother-in-law, Bhavika disclosed her challenges in coping with daily life and her children’s emotional well-being post the tragedy. She criticized Air India’s handling of the incident and advocated for stricter measures against the airline. Planning to mark the anniversary with religious rites in India, Bhavika’s son’s fear of flying Air India underscores the lasting impact of the crash on survivors.

Amidst fears of the blame being unfairly placed on the pilots, Bhavika and other affected families have called for a transparent investigation to ascertain the true cause of the crash. The delay in the final investigative report has fueled concerns among families seeking closure and accountability from Air India and Indian authorities.

The affected families, represented by legal firms like Chionuma Law, have demanded full transparency and independent scrutiny of the investigation to prevent similar tragedies in the future. While the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch remains engaged with its Indian counterpart, questions linger over the handling and progress of the inquiry.

With ongoing challenges and emotional distress, the families of the victims continue to seek answers and justice while grappling with the profound impact of the Air India Flight 171 tragedy.
