If the Hub overheats, it could impede your connection speed or even cease functioning.”
Ordinarily, a warm room alone is unlikely to cause issues, as most modern routers are engineered to withstand typical summer temperatures. However, placing the router on a windowsill or in direct sunlight can push it beyond its operational limits. Think of it in the same way as safeguarding your body from sunburn by seeking shade.
When subjected to excessive heat, broadband speeds may decrease, and the router could temporarily power off until it cools down.
Relocating the router to a shaded spot is the initial step, but the placement also plays a role in Wi-Fi performance. Concealing your router in a cupboard or enclosed area for tidiness may hinder ventilation and reduce Wi-Fi efficiency.
Virgin Media further advised: “Strategic placement of the Hub can enhance Wi-Fi coverage. Avoid stowing the Hub in a closet or hiding it behind your TV.”
For optimal connectivity, position your router in an open area, ideally elevated off the floor and centrally located within your residence. Additionally, ensure it is positioned away from devices that can cause signal interference, such as cordless phones, baby monitors, and microwave ovens.
One more factor to consider is avoiding placing your router near a fish tank, as the water can disrupt Wi-Fi signals, hindering connectivity throughout your home.
