Temperatures are set to cool down after an intense heatwave that brought unprecedented weather conditions to the UK. The record for the hottest June day in the UK was broken for three consecutive days this week, reaching 37.3C in Santon Downham, Suffolk.
Today, southern areas are expected to reach a peak of 33C while northern regions will see temperatures around 30C. However, tomorrow, temperatures are forecasted to drop below 30C, with expected highs of 27C in the south and 23C in the north, signaling the end of the official heatwave conditions.
Different counties have varying heatwave thresholds, ranging from 25C to 28C. Tomorrow’s temperatures are predicted to be around 21C in East Anglia, 20C in London, 18C in the Midlands, 17C in Cardiff, 15C in Glasgow, and 13C in parts of Northern Ireland.
The Met Office Chief Forecaster, Andy Page, mentioned a gradual shift in weather conditions over the weekend, with the southeast of England retaining warmth the longest. Meanwhile, western Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to experience rain with showers likely to spread south on Sunday.
The weekend will see dry conditions in the southeast, with a slight risk of thunderstorms before temperatures normalize by Sunday and Monday. Next week is expected to be fresher overall, with predominantly dry weather and sunny spells, although a few showers may occur, especially on Tuesday and in the northwest.
