The southern parts of England may experience thunderstorms on Thursday evening following a day of sweltering and muggy weather.
During a broadcast on the Met Office’s YouTube channel, meteorologist Alex Burkill mentioned the potential for localized thunderstorms in the southeast later on Thursday due to the influx of hot, humid air from the south, albeit with a low risk.
As the week progresses, rain is expected to move in predominantly from the west-southwest, with the heaviest rainfall shifting daily. Persistent heavy rain is anticipated to move eastward across southern England on Wednesday, followed by a northward progression on Thursday affecting Northern Ireland, Western Northern Wales, Northern England, and Scotland.
Despite the prolonged heavy rain, total rainfall amounts are likely to remain relatively low. Burkill noted that while some areas could receive over 50 millimeters of rain, it is not a substantial volume. Many individuals may actually welcome the rainfall during this period.
Weather maps illustrate the rain band encompassing Ireland, Northern Ireland, and parts of Western Scotland starting at 6 am on Thursday.

By 4 pm, Northern Ireland is anticipated to clear from the rain, with heaviest showers predicted over Cumbria, the Pennines, and segments of the North East.
