Several months ago, Trump gathered reporters in the Oval Office to declare his intention to refurbish the iconic landmark. He expressed dissatisfaction with the deteriorating appearance of the pool, known for being the site of Martin Luther King’s historic “I have a dream” speech. Despite a $300 million renovation project already in progress, Trump abruptly canceled it and opted for a quicker solution to have the pool pristine for the upcoming July 4th Independence Day celebrations near the Lincoln Memorial.
Rather than pursuing the extensive renovation, Trump claimed to have enlisted the services of his hotel pool contractors to swiftly resurface the large man-made lake with high-quality swimming pool material in American Flag Blue. Originally estimated to take a week and cost about $1.5 million, the project ended up taking over five weeks and approximately $14 million.
Following its completion, the pool unexpectedly turned a murky green due to algae contamination, necessitating additional cleaning efforts. Despite Trump’s promise of a cleaning robot, the algae issue persisted, requiring manual cleaning with hydrogen peroxide.
