Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly had a contentious phone conversation where the US President expressed anger towards the Israeli leader. Sources revealed that during a 15-minute call on Monday, Trump made derogatory remarks about Netanyahu following Israel’s increased military actions in Lebanon against Hezbollah, which drew international criticism.
While Trump has been optimistic about a potential peace agreement with Iran, Israel has issued warnings for residents in southern Lebanon to evacuate as Israeli troops advance further into the region, marking the deepest incursion in over two decades.
According to reports, Trump criticized Netanyahu for jeopardizing the peace process with Iran due to Israel’s actions against Hezbollah. Sources within the US government claimed that during the brief call, Trump accused Netanyahu of causing Israel to be disliked globally. Trump allegedly made disparaging comments about Netanyahu’s past legal issues, insinuating that he had helped keep the Israeli leader out of jail.
Furthermore, it was reported that Trump used strong language during the call, calling Netanyahu “stupid” and claiming that he was protecting him from facing legal consequences. Trump’s public statements on peace negotiations with Iran have been inconsistent, ranging from indifference to claiming rapid progress.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz disclosed that Netanyahu warned Trump of potential military actions in Beirut if Hezbollah continues its attacks on Israel. However, Trump asserted that there would be no deployment of troops to Beirut. Despite a ceasefire agreement brokered in April, tensions persist between Israel and Lebanon, with ongoing discussions in Washington aimed at securing a comprehensive ceasefire to prevent further hostilities.
