At least three students have tragically lost their lives in a devastating school shooting that occurred at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, the Philippines. The incident, which took place around 9am local time, resulted in the injury of five students, with three fatalities confirmed.
The sound of gunshots during class hours sparked fear and chaos among students and faculty members at the school. Two individuals, including a 15-year-old student, have been identified as persons of interest in the investigation.
Authorities from the Police Regional Office-8 have reassured the public of their efforts to apprehend the suspects. Additional police presence has been deployed in the vicinity to ensure the safety of students, staff, parents, and the community at large.
In a statement, the police urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and assist in the investigation by providing any relevant details. One suspect was apprehended at the scene, while the other was captured following a pursuit operation, during which the firearm allegedly used in the shooting was seized.
The suspects, one of whom is classified as a Child In Conflict with the Law and a resident of Barangay San Jose, are currently undergoing interrogation by law enforcement. The police chief of Tacloban City, Noelito Getigan, indicated that the shooting may have been motivated by alleged bullying experienced by the suspects.
