The victim, identified as Jay Roush, aged 64, was discovered deceased by authorities following reports of an unresponsive employee pinned under the machinery in a water feature. Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly, but unfortunately, Mr. Roush was pronounced dead on-site.
The circumstances leading to Mr. Roush’s presence in the water remain unclear. Investigations revealed that a colleague initiated a search for him after failed attempts to reach him via phone, eventually locating him submerged with the lawn mower in shallow water.
The incident took place at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Paris, Illinois, situated approximately three hours south of Chicago. This 18-hole golf course is renowned for its challenging terrain. The Edgar County Coroner’s Office confirmed the discovery of Mr. Roush and has scheduled an autopsy in Springfield, Illinois, while local authorities are conducting further inquiries into the tragic event.
Mr. Roush, a resident of Vermillion, had a longstanding career as an inspector at GE Aerospace in Indiana spanning over three decades. Described as an enthusiastic golfer and slow-pitch softball player, he also dedicated his time to mentoring and supporting numerous young athletes in the local community.
Known for his vibrant and sociable nature, Mr. Roush was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Vermillion. Fond memories and heartfelt tributes poured in for him, with loved ones requesting attendees at his funeral to dress casually or wear Chicago Cubs attire.
