A 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life after experiencing a medical emergency at the Kendal Calling music festival in Cumbria.
Authorities responded to the festival grounds at 2:13 am on Sunday after receiving reports of the girl’s distress. Despite immediate medical attention, including CPR, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The girl’s family has been notified and is receiving support from specialized officers, according to the police.
Investigations into the circumstances of the girl’s passing are ongoing, with a focus on individuals who were around the ‘Calling Out’ tent and the ‘Big Wheel’ at approximately 2:00 am. Police are especially interested in speaking with a group of women who raised concerns about the girl’s well-being and alerted emergency responders.
A spokesperson for Kendal Calling expressed deep sorrow over the girl’s death and confirmed cooperation with the authorities in their inquiries. They emphasized that once the girl fell ill, she received immediate attention from on-site security and medical teams. Paramedics and medical staff at the scene provided emergency care to the best of their abilities.
This year, the festival drew over 40,000 attendees, featuring prominent acts like Wolf Alice, Primal Scream, Biffy Clyro, Scissor Sisters, and Groove Armada. The event, known for its family-friendly environment, also offers various stages, DJ performances, comedy shows, cinema screenings, and a dedicated area for children called Kids Calling.
