Passengers on board a plane off the coast of Haiti had a harrowing experience as they were compelled to swim to safety following an emergency landing in the sea.
The incident involved a Cessna 402B aircraft en route from Cap-Haïtien to Port-au-Prince when it executed a water landing near Lafiteau around midday on Wednesday. The plane, identified by registration number HI-1056 and operated by ZED Airlines as flight 6502, came down in the coastal waters.
The pilot and two passengers managed to escape the aircraft and were seen swimming to shore where they received immediate assistance. ZED Airlines’ spokesperson expressed gratitude that there were no casualties.
Footage captured the aircraft near Ibo Beach, with passengers wading through shallow waters to reach land. Emergency services tended to the trio, confirming their stable condition.
Authorities and the airline’s technical team launched a thorough investigation into the incident, focusing on the plane’s condition and any possible mechanical issues. ZED Airlines emphasized passenger safety as their top priority and assured updates would follow. The airline credited the pilot’s skillful response for averting tragedy.
