Officers responding to reports of a suspicious object in a front yard in Fallowfield have uncovered another questionable item inside a nearby residence.
The second item was detected outside a property on Rostherne Avenue at approximately 2:45 pm on Sunday, according to Greater Manchester Police. No individuals have been apprehended, and investigations are currently ongoing.
This development follows a prior incident where authorities were alerted to a suspicious object on Abram Close, which connects to Rostherne Avenue, just after 6 pm on Saturday. A bomb disposal unit assessed the object, leading to the evacuation of residents in roughly 20 neighboring properties as a precautionary measure. The cordon was subsequently lifted, allowing residents to return later that evening.
On Sunday afternoon, the police reinstated a cordon and evacuated several homes in the vicinity. Specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from the Army have been redeployed to the area, utilizing advanced explosives robots at the site.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Morley stated, “We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we address this situation while our investigation into the complete circumstances progresses.”
“Events like these may understandably cause concern within the local community, but rest assured, there is no broader threat. Numerous road closures are in effect, so it is advisable to steer clear of the area and seek alternative routes.”
“Officers are present to ensure the safety of individuals in the nearby vicinity – feel free to approach them if you have any worries. As we continue our efforts, it is crucial for anyone with any information – regardless of its significance – to report it to us and enable our investigation.”
