Residents in Massachusetts have reported hearing a loud boom or explosion. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm EDT on Saturday in Boston and Rhode Island. Meteorologists are speculating that the event may be related to a meteor entering the atmosphere.
Spaceflight meteorologist Nick Stewart mentioned that the detected flash, not associated with active thunderstorms, indicates the possibility of a bolide or meteor reentry. NBC10 meteorologist Pamela Gardner also suggested that the boom could have been caused by a bolide or meteor, as there were no lightning strikes or earthquakes reported during that time.
The occurrence is still under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
