A British toddler, aged three, has tragically passed away after being discovered unconscious in a swimming pool at a rented villa in Pollensa, Mallorca. The child was initially rescued by her parents before emergency services took over and provided CPR at the scene. Despite efforts to save her, she remained in critical condition at Son Espases Hospital in Palma before succumbing to the incident.
The Civil Guard is currently investigating the incident, confirming the child’s nationality as British. This unfortunate event marks the fourth recent incident involving UK families in Spain, with three other children losing their lives in separate incidents in the Costa del Sol and the Canary Islands.
In a similar incident, a one-year-old British toddler died after being found unconscious in a pool in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands. Despite attempts to resuscitate the child, she was airlifted to a hospital in Gran Canaria where she later succumbed to irreversible neurological damage.
Sebastian Quintana, president of Canarias 1500 Km de Costa, expressed condolences to the family and emphasized the importance of constant supervision of young children near water. Investigations by the Civil Guard are ongoing into both cases.
Moreover, a four-year-old British girl drowned in a hotel pool in Lanzarote, and a three-year-old boy lost his life in a similar pool incident near the Costa del Sol. Emergency services responded to both cases, but sadly, the children could not be saved.
The local council of Periana extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the three-year-old boy, emphasizing the town’s support during this difficult time. These tragic incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of water safety, especially when young children are present.
