“Massive Fire Engulfs Peckham Shop, Storage Unit”

Around 100 firefighters are currently engaged in extinguishing a significant fire that has erupted in south-east London. The incident, impacting a shop and storage unit on Rye Lane in Peckham, was reported by the London Fire Brigade (LFB). Images circulating online depict dense smoke rising into the air while firefighting crews work to contain the blaze.

A total of fifteen fire engines have been deployed to the scene, with two of the LFB’s 32-meter turntable ladders utilized for aerial firefighting efforts. The LFB received the initial emergency call at 8:54 pm, with the cause of the fire yet to be determined.

Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the affected area, and local residents have been cautioned to shut their windows and doors due to the high volume of smoke in the vicinity. The LFB has confirmed that approximately 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines are actively responding to the incident on Rye Lane in Peckham, where a shop and storage unit are being impacted by the fire. Control officers began fielding emergency calls related to the blaze at 8:54 pm, and investigations into the fire’s origin are ongoing.

Rafi Mauro-Benady, a correspondent from MyLondon, is present at the scene, reporting that the fire is believed to be stemming from Copeland Park, an establishment known as “Peckham’s Creative Quarter.” An LFB spokesperson emphasized the ongoing firefighting efforts on Rye Lane, urging local residents to safeguard themselves by keeping their windows and doors shut to mitigate the effects of the smoke.
