“Manhattan S4-R: Sky Q Alternative with No Monthly Fees”

A newly popular device at Argos, the Manhattan S4-R set-top box offers features akin to Sky Q but without monthly fees. This device allows for recording programs, pausing live TV, and storing content on its hard drive. Unlike Sky Q, there are no ongoing costs with the Manhattan S4-R as it provides access to over 100 channels without subscription requirements.

The Manhattan S4-R operates with Freesat, utilizing existing satellite dishes to deliver free TV channels directly to TVs. Notable channels available include BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, Legend, Sky Mix, TLC, U&Dave, and That’s TV 2. The device boasts a user-friendly interface, built-in search functionalities, and access to a vast library of on-demand entertainment, offering compatibility with apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.

Although it does not offer premium sports and movie packages like Sky Q, Freesat’s advantage lies in its free viewing experience. The Manhattan S4-R 500GB model is currently retailing for £219.99 at stores such as Argos and Amazon, with larger 1TB and 2TB versions set to launch soon. Demand for the device is high, with Argos indicating it as “in demand” and “selling fast.”

Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the S4-R’s enhanced recording capabilities compared to its predecessor, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings. Describing the S4-R as an appealing alternative for households seeking a cost-effective TV option with increased flexibility and choices.

The Pleio puck, another innovative device challenging traditional TV services, provides streaming access to TVs without aerials. Offering over 50 live channels over the internet, the Pleio puck is back in stock after initial shortages, priced at £99.99 and includes a gaming controller and access to 200+ online games.

Sky has announced a 20% price reduction for the upcoming World Cup, with Sky Glass Air TV starting from £4.50 per month. Customers opting for the upgraded Sky Glass Gen 2 model, featuring a 4K Quantum Dot display and built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, will need to pay from £11 per month.
