A man has been prohibited from entering recreational facilities after he was caught secretly filming a woman changing in a shower cubicle at a popular swimming pool. Craig Ellingford, 44, was found lurking around the changing area at the Olympia Leisure Pool in Dundee, waiting for an opportunity to film the woman as she undressed and entered the shower.
Ellingford, residing in Cardross Place, Dundee, admitted to committing voyeurism at the Olympia leisure pool. He used a mobile phone inside a shower cubicle to watch the woman while she was undressed. The incident was reported to the Dundee Sheriff Court, where it was revealed that Ellingford was seen on CCTV arriving at the pool, changing into swimwear, and then monitoring the woman’s movements.
The woman, noticing Ellingford’s phone pointed towards her, confronted him, but he ignored her. She quickly dressed and reported the incident to the staff and police. When questioned by officers, she appeared visibly shaken and distressed.
In court, Ellingford expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging the impact on the victim and his family. Sheriff Mark O’Hanlon imposed a conduct order on Ellingford, banning him from leisure facilities, placing him under supervision, and requiring him to complete 165 hours of unpaid work. The sheriff emphasized the seriousness of the offense, noting Ellingford’s deliberate actions in following the woman into the shower cubicle.
The court proceedings highlighted the distress caused to the victim and the consequences for Ellingford, a first-time offender. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting others’ privacy and the legal consequences of such behavior.
