Travelers are facing significant delays on the M5 near Bristol Airport this evening due to a closure in both directions near Avonmouth following a police incident.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes as there are current delays of 65 minutes heading northbound and 20 minutes heading southbound.
The closure affects the M5 between junctions 18 and 19 southbound, and between junctions 21 and 18 northbound.
According to National Highways, the southbound closure is between junction 18 (M49) and junction 19 (Gordano Services) due to an incident led by Avon & Somerset Police. The northbound carriageway closure extends from junction 21 to junction 18.
National Highways reported, “Southbound traffic is currently being turned around, resulting in a 60-minute delay in both directions.”
A frustrated driver mentioned, “We’ve been stationary for almost 2 hours with no updates from authorities.”
“They are now directing vehicles back on the M5,” the driver added.
Normal traffic flow is not anticipated to resume until 11.30pm, as per National Highways.
