A woman, Maja Klaczynska, experienced severe health issues allegedly caused by black mold in her newly constructed residence, leading doctors to consider the possibility of cancer. Due to the uninhabitable condition of her flat in Silvertown, East London, Maja, a 33-year-old homeowner, sought medical assistance for debilitating headaches, joint pain, cough, and fever.
After undergoing CT and PET scans to rule out leukemia or lymphoma, Maja discovered that mold had infested her property, forcing her to vacate the premises. Despite her aspirations of owning a London home since relocating from Poland at 18, Maja’s dream turned into a nightmare as she found all her belongings tainted by mold.
Concerned for her health, Maja consulted various professionals, suspecting mold in her bath was the root cause of her ailments. Despite several inspections claiming no significant issues, Maja persisted, ultimately unveiling extensive black mold in her bathroom, kitchen, and walls.
Taking legal action against the property’s landlord through Hodge Jones & Allen, Maja accused Peabody Trust officials and builders of negligence. She endured a tumultuous period, residing in temporary accommodations until repairs were completed in January.
Expressing her ordeal, Maja lamented the loss of her possessions and displacement from her home, emphasizing the distressing journey from start to finish. Peabody expressed regret over the situation, acknowledging the challenges Maja faced and the prolonged separation from her residence.
In pursuit of justice, Maja’s representative, Bahareh Amani, affirmed her client’s determination for compensation and resolution following the arduous experience. Despite the setbacks, Maja’s resilience remains unwavering as she strives for redress and closure.
