Holidaymakers witnessed a dramatic scene as a light aircraft had to make an emergency landing near their accommodations in Amarilla Golf, Tenerife. The plane, en route to Tenerife South Airport, encountered mechanical issues, leading to the pilot’s decision to land on side roads close to residential and holiday flats.
The incident, which occurred at 5 pm, fortunately resulted in no major injuries. Both the pilot and co-pilot, unharmed but taken to the hospital for precautionary checks, managed to exit the aircraft following the emergency landing caused by engine failure.
The aircraft came to a stop near the popular golf course, prompting the intervention of emergency services, including the Tenerife Fire Consortium and local authorities. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the technical malfunction that led to the emergency landing.
Efforts were made to prevent a fuel ignition risk by applying foam to the spilled fuel on the road. The incident underscored the challenges of flying in areas with complex terrain and high tourist traffic, emphasizing the swift responses required from pilots when faced with mechanical issues.
