Former US First Lady Jill Biden has shared her initial thoughts on Princess Kate in her newly released memoir. In a sneak peek from her book, “View From The East Wing,” Jill reminisced about a trip to the UK in 2021 with her husband, then President Joe Biden, for the G7 Summit.
Reflecting on their encounter five years ago, Mrs. Biden vividly described meeting the Princess of Wales and having tea with the late Queen Elizabeth. She mentioned being advised by officials to avoid discussing family matters in light of Prince Philip’s recent passing.
An exclusive excerpt, published by People magazine, highlights the personal interactions between Kate and Jill, with the former First Lady offering guidance to the future queen on navigating public life while prioritizing emotional well-being.
Their initial meeting occurred at a primary school in Hayle, Cornwall, where they bonded over a mutual interest in early childhood education. Recalling the encounter, Jill wrote, “When Princess Kate and I admired rabbits at a primary school in West Cornwall, I found her instantly charming, very down-to-earth. She exuded a sense of calmness.”
Additionally, Mrs. Biden revealed the advice she imparted to the Princess of Wales, encouraging her to maintain a journal for personal reflections. Following their meeting in Cornwall, the duo collaborated on an article for CNN advocating for a reevaluation of early childhood development strategies.
During her visit to Windsor Castle, Jill recounted having tea with Queen Elizabeth, noting the British protocol’s sensitivity to avoiding inquiries about the royal family post-Prince Philip’s demise. Despite this, the Queen openly discussed her family, showcasing hospitality and warmth during their conversation.
In her memoir, Jill marveled at the Queen’s personal touches, such as pouring tea herself and sharing moments about her great-grandchildren. The former First Lady admired the quiet elegance of the Queen’s living room, characterized by family photographs that exuded a sense of grace akin to the monarch herself.
