Horse racing legend Frankie Dettori was rushed to the hospital after a terrifying accident that resulted in his car overturning. The retired Italian jockey was in Newmarket, Suffolk, when his car was struck by another vehicle, leading to a serious crash that left him with multiple injuries.
Reports indicate that Dettori’s car spun and flipped over after being hit on the rear passenger side. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported Dettori to the hospital for treatment.
At 55 years old, Dettori sustained a broken thumb and several fractured ribs in the incident. He is currently hospitalized for further evaluation and monitoring.
H Talent Management, Dettori’s representatives, issued a statement confirming the accident and his injuries. They mentioned that another vehicle collided with the side of Dettori’s car, causing it to spin and flip. Dettori expressed gratitude to the emergency services and medical staff assisting him and requested privacy during his recovery.
Dettori retired earlier this year after a remarkable career spanning nearly four decades. A three-time British flat racing Champion Jockey, he achieved 288 Grade 1 race victories, solidifying his place as a legendary figure in the sport. One of his most notable accomplishments was winning all seven races at Ascot in 1996.
Following his retirement in 2025, Dettori now resides in California with his family. This recent accident is not the first vehicular incident he has been involved in, as he survived a plane crash in 2000 that resulted in injuries to his ankle and thumb. An investigation into the plane crash revealed details of the tragic event.
Dettori’s fans and the racing community are hopeful for his quick recovery as he continues to receive medical care.
