Gas prices are on the rise again, affecting families heading out for summer vacations. The average cost of petrol has increased slightly to 151.0p per liter, while diesel remains just below 165p per liter. This upward trend is linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East, with the US and Iran engaging in missile and drone attacks over the weekend.
President Donald Trump’s remarks on the conflict have added to the uncertainty. Oil prices surged to $78.68 on Monday morning, reflecting the impact of the Middle East turmoil. UK drivers are feeling the effects, with petrol and diesel prices hitting highs earlier this year.
The recent price hike is attributed to a rise in wholesale petrol costs starting in late June. Diesel costs have also increased significantly. Luke Bosdet, the AA’s pump prices spokesperson, noted the challenges facing drivers as they prepare for summer travel.
The fluctuating pump prices have led more drivers to consider electric cars. Data shows a significant increase in electricity consumption by road vehicles, particularly electric vehicles. The shift towards electric vehicles is becoming more pronounced as drivers seek alternatives amid rising fuel costs.
