A man from Florida, identified as James Westervelt, has confessed to law enforcement that he found amusement in using a leaf blower to torment his own infant son. Tragically, the child passed away at six months old after enduring multiple instances of this cruel behavior.
Westervelt, 38, admitted to police that he derived pleasure from subjecting his son to the powerful gardening tool. This was not an isolated incident as he also faces accusations of child abuse for using the same leaf blower to distress his son when he was just two months old, causing the child severe distress and breathing difficulties.
The infant, whose identity has not been disclosed, succumbed to his injuries in August 2024 after being taken off life support in the hospital. Medical professionals determined that the baby suffered blunt force trauma, potentially inflicted by his father using the leaf blower.
Furthermore, authorities have revealed that they possess footage showing Westervelt recklessly directing air at the boy in another incident preceding the fatal one. Consequently, Westervelt now faces a first-degree murder charge in addition to existing child abuse charges related to the tragic death of his son.
In a separate but equally distressing case, a toddler tragically lost his life after being left unattended in a scalding bath by his mother’s boyfriend, who abandoned the child to engage in drug-related activities. Instead of seeking immediate medical attention for the severe burns sustained by the boy, ointment was inappropriately applied, leading to his untimely death.
The heartbreaking events occurred back in September 2023 when Sergio Mena, 34, left one-year-old Henry Wheatley-Brown unattended in a scalding bath to procure drugs. Upon returning, Mena discovered the child suffering from severe burns. Despite the seriousness of the injuries, neither Mena nor the child’s mother sought medical help promptly, opting to treat the burns with over-the-counter ointment. Emergency services were finally contacted the following day when Henry exhibited signs of respiratory distress.
