Commuters were evacuated from Birmingham New Street station as all train services were temporarily halted due to a fire incident. The disruption caused major delays to train schedules, impacting passengers’ travel plans.
National Rail issued a statement reporting the fire on a train at Birmingham New Street, resulting in the closure of all lines at the station. Although the station has been reopened, delays are still expected as services resume.
Avanti West Coast advised passengers of possible cancellations, delays, or diversions through Bescot Stadium due to the incident at Birmingham New Street. They also announced that tickets could be used at no extra cost on Chiltern Railways services between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone.
Passengers were informed that if their journey was delayed by 15 minutes or more, they could claim compensation online. Additionally, if a train was canceled, tickets were valid for alternative services. Refunds were available for those who chose not to travel due to disruptions.
London Northwestern Railway confirmed the evacuation of Birmingham New Street due to a unit on fire, causing the suspension of all services until the situation was resolved. West Midlands Railway also implemented ticket acceptance for specific routes during the disruption.
While the station has now reopened and lines are operational, delays are anticipated until the situation fully normalizes. Passengers were urged to check for updates on their train schedules in light of the recent incident.
