More than 100 guests were forced to evacuate as a fire engulfed a hotel in Malaga. The blaze, which started around 1:25 am on Monday, sent thick smoke visible for miles into the air from the Ibis Hotel. Witnesses observed flames emanating from the hotel’s basement on Cerrojo Street, although no injuries were reported.
Reports from COPE Malaga indicated that the fire remained active with heavy smoke and a distinct burning odor permeating central Malaga during the night and early morning. The origin of the fire may have been at Le Grand Café Centro near the Guadalmedina River, spreading quickly to the hotel and affecting a significant portion of its interior.
Firefighters have been tirelessly working to contain the blaze throughout the day. Initially confined to the first floor, the fire swiftly extended through the building, with flames visible from hotel room windows. Residents across Malaga witnessed a large smoke plume rising from the hotel.
Malaga City Council updated on social media that additional fire crews had joined the four teams already on-site, totaling six crews equipped with two aerial ladder trucks, four fire engines, and three water tankers. Despite the evacuation of over 100 guests, the Andalusian Health Service reported no injuries requiring treatment so far.
