A shooting incident at a popular World Cup “fan zone” in California has resulted in one fatality and another individual facing life-threatening injuries. The tragic event took place at San Pedro Square in the San Francisco Bay Area during a lively football “watch party” gathering.
Despite no World Cup games being aired during the shooting, the day’s sole tournament match had concluded earlier in the day. San Jose police confirmed the death of one victim at the scene, while the other victim was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries.
Law enforcement authorities are treating the incident as a homicide and have closed several surrounding streets for investigation. The Bay Area has hosted multiple World Cup matches, with the latest match being a knockout game between Bosnia and the United States.
Following the shooting, the area saw a heightened police presence, with emergency responders transporting an injured individual away from the scene. The vicinity was cordoned off, and most establishments in the area shut down as a precautionary measure.
An eyewitness, a security guard who preferred to remain unnamed, recounted seeing the injured individual in distress, noting visible blood and police engaging with witnesses. The situation remains under investigation by local authorities.
