A tragic incident occurred on the Costa Brava when a tourist lost his life following a collision between a boat carrying up to 12 individuals and the jet ski he was riding with his son in Roses, Girona. The man on the jet ski, a 54-year-old French national, was fatally injured in the crash. The boat’s driver, also French and aged 52, has been apprehended on suspicion of reckless homicide.
The unfortunate event took place at approximately 4:45 pm near Santa Margarida. The boat, reportedly carrying between eight to 12 people, collided with the jet ski. Upon receiving the distress call, a significant number of emergency responders rushed to the scene, including Maritime Rescue teams, paramedics, an air ambulance, ground ambulances, local police officers, and Spain’s Civil Guard.
Rescuers swiftly located the jet ski, administered CPR to the injured man, and transferred him to shore via a rescue vessel. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, his son and the occupants of the boat emerged unscathed from the incident.
An investigation into the fatal collision is underway, led by the Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard in Girona. Statements have been obtained from both the individuals on the recreational boat and the deceased man’s son. Additionally, breath and drug tests are being conducted on all involved parties, including the boat’s crew members and the victim’s son who was present on the jet ski.
