In the early hours of this morning, a man passed away following an assault, while two women were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
At approximately 1:30 am today, authorities in north Dublin responded to an incident at Foster Terrace in Ballybough, where a man in his 50s was found with severe injuries. Sadly, he was declared deceased at the scene. Two women, both in their 60s, were also located and taken to the hospital. One of the women is in serious condition but not in a life-threatening state.
The Garda Technical Bureau is preserving the scene and a nearby residence for forensic investigations. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been informed, and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled.
No arrests have been made yet. The police are pursuing a specific line of inquiry and do not currently seek any other individuals connected to the incident.
A spokesperson stated, “An investigation is underway by An Garda SÃochána into a fatal assault on Foster Terrace, Dublin 3, on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Before 1:30 am on Saturday, January 31, 2026, authorities and emergency services were alerted to an assault on Foster Terrace, Dublin 3.
“A male in his 50s was found with severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased’s body remains at Foster Terrace.
“A female in her 60s was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and is awaiting discharge. Another female in her 60s was hospitalized for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is currently under medical care.
“The scene at Foster Terrace and a nearby residence have been secured for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been assigned to lead the investigation, with an incident room established at Mountjoy Garda Station. No arrests have been made at this point.
“Investigators are urging any witnesses or individuals with information about the incident to come forward. They are also seeking any camera footage, including dashcam recordings from motorists in the area between 1 am and 1:30 am on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
