“Edinburgh Woman Critical After Clothing Fire”

A woman is currently hospitalized in critical condition after her clothing caught fire in a bustling street in Edinburgh. The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 pm on Monday on St Leonards Street, prompting emergency services to respond promptly.

Witnesses observed the woman struggling on the ground, attempting to remove her burning trousers while bystanders, including two Royal Mail workers, rushed to her aid using clothing and a blanket to extinguish the flames. Despite these efforts, the fire continued to engulf the lower part of her body. Additional footage depicting a passerby throwing water on the fire showcases the community’s attempts to assist.

Eventually, firefighters arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. Although the cause of the fire remains uncertain, authorities have stated that there are no indications of foul play. Police Scotland confirmed that the injured woman was immediately transported to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition, as investigations continue.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service reported responding to the incident at Carnegie Court Corner on Bowmont Place at the same time, swiftly extinguishing the fire before handing over the scene to the police for further examination.
