“Disturbing Video Captures Woman Strangling Puppy in Cruel Act”

In Australia, a woman was captured on video strangling her puppy in a disturbing act of prolonged cruelty because the pet was chewing on her belongings. Lani Beattie, aged 23, received a suspended jail term for the mistreatment of her young dog named Roxy.

The incident took place in Beckenham, Perth, on October 13, where a passerby witnessed Beattie standing over Roxy, tied to a pole with a rope around her neck, causing distressing yelping sounds. The witness reported the incident to RSPCA WA after seeing the puppy in distress.

Upon examination by a veterinarian, Roxy was found to have bruising, swelling, bleeding in her right eye, and signs of psychological distress. Beattie justified her actions by claiming that she no longer wanted Roxy due to the pet’s destructive behavior.

Roxy has since been rehomed by RSPCA. In court on July 2, Beattie faced the Perth Magistrates Court where the RSPCA WA prosecutor described her actions as wicked and sustained cruelty. Magistrate Michelle Harries condemned Beattie’s behavior as abhorrent and serious.

Beattie was convicted of animal cruelty and sentenced to six months and 14 days in prison, with the sentence suspended for 12 months under supervision. She is also prohibited from owning or caring for animals for five years and has been ordered to pay over $1,600 to RSPCA WA.

Kylie Green, RSPCA WA inspector manager, expressed horror at the abuse inflicted on Roxy, emphasizing the prolonged suffering the puppy endured. She highlighted the importance of proper training, attention, and care for young dogs to prevent destructive behavior, condemning Beattie’s actions as unjustifiable torture of an animal.
