A passenger described as “disruptive” was restrained by cabin crew and other travelers and later fell critically ill on a Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester. The incident involved a man in his thirties who reportedly consumed a substantial amount of alcohol before boarding the five-hour flight from Larnaca with his partner on a Sunday.
Witnesses stated that the individual had been involved in a heated argument with his partner, leading cabin crew to relocate her to a different seat. Subsequently, the man began behaving disruptively, walking up and down the aisle and yelling at fellow passengers. Allegedly, he even headbutted another traveler, as reported by Lancashire Live.
Several passengers intervened and managed to restrain the man until the aircraft landed at Manchester Airport around 2.25 am on Monday. Upon arrival, police officers boarded the plane and discovered that the man had stopped breathing.
The passengers recounted that the officers immediately initiated CPR on the man and then requested a defibrillator. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the individual was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a severe medical emergency. Passengers were asked to remain onboard and provide statements about the incident.
One passenger, who was accompanied by his partner and daughter, expressed the panic and distress felt during the unfolding events. He mentioned the impact on his daughter, who became anxious and upset. The atmosphere on the plane was described as tense, with children appearing frightened, and even the flight attendants were visibly distressed.
Another passenger detailed the escalating behavior of the disruptive individual, noting how he became increasingly aggressive and physically confrontational. The situation became intense as the man started assaulting fellow travelers and crew members, leading to a chaotic scene onboard.
Authorities from Greater Manchester Police disclosed that an investigation had been initiated following the disruptive behavior exhibited by the individual. The man, in his thirties, was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition but is now stable. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
A spokesperson from Jet2 confirmed that flight LS966 from Larnaca to Manchester had to request a priority landing due to the disruptive passenger incident. The airline stated that the passenger in question had been taken to the hospital and refrained from commenting further as the investigation continues.
