More than 13 individuals lost their lives when a pickup truck carrying guests to a wedding was caught between two trucks on a busy motorway in Indonesia. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, July 12, on the northern coastal highway near the Kiajaran Kulon village of the Indramayu regency on Java, Indonesia’s main island.
The group had been returning from a wedding in a nearby village when the collision happened. According to local traffic police chief Undang Syarif Hidayat, the victims were in an open-bed pickup truck attempting a U-turn on the motorway when a wing-box truck rear-ended them. The impact propelled the pickup truck into the opposite lane, where it was hit by another truck, ejecting multiple passengers onto the highway.
Five survivors are currently hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the devastating crash. Indonesia frequently experiences deadly traffic accidents due to factors like overloaded vehicles, inadequate road safety measures, and non-compliance with traffic regulations.
