Astronaut Joshua Kutryk, representing the Canadian Space Agency, embarked on a six-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS) 11 days ago.
During his first interaction with reporters from space on Tuesday, Kutryk expressed his enjoyment of the experience, stating that he is “having a blast” so far.
Adapting to life in space, Kutryk mentioned the challenges of relearning basic activities like sleeping, eating, and handling tools in a microgravity environment. He likened the process to relearning simple tasks as a toddler, finding both frustration and amusement in the experience.
Engaged in scientific endeavors, Kutryk has initiated experiments focusing on mental health and monitoring his physiological metrics.
‘Canada’s strong legacy in space’
This marks Kutryk’s inaugural space voyage, following closely after fellow Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen’s recent mission circling the moon during Artemis II.
Kutryk envisions this mission as a path to innovation and a promising future for Canada, hoping that it highlights the country’s capabilities and fosters advancement in various sectors.
