A tragic incident occurred as a three-year-old British boy lost his life following an accident in a swimming pool during a family holiday near Costa del Sol. The incident took place at a rural holiday home in the village of Periana, situated in Spain’s La Axarquia region, approximately 30 miles northeast of Malaga. The boy was staying at the property with his parents.
Upon receiving the alarm around 8.30 am, authorities including police and paramedics rushed to the scene, with a helicopter also deployed as part of the emergency response. Despite their efforts, the child could not be saved and was pronounced dead on-site.
The Civil Guard has initiated an investigation into the tragedy, with initial reports suggesting it was a tragic accident. The Periana Council expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending heartfelt condolences to the family and emphasizing solidarity and support during this difficult time.
Local reports revealed that the boy was the only child of the holidaying couple and that the family had recently arrived at the farmhouse. Official sources confirmed the child’s age as three years old, clarifying misinformation about his age. The family, being British, is currently receiving assistance and comfort from local authorities and a priest.
