British Airways pilots fell ill with food poisoning following a layover, with one pilot becoming incapacitated. The pilots had a layover in India before continuing their journey to the UK, where they had breakfast together and consumed bottled water purchased from an external vendor.
During the subsequent 10.5-hour flight to London Heathrow, one pilot became severely ill, requiring oxygen at 30,000 feet. The other two pilots also experienced worsening symptoms upon landing in the UK. British Airways ensured that passenger safety was not compromised during the flight.
Reports indicate that there were previous complaints regarding the hygiene at the pilots’ hotel in Hyderabad, where they stayed at £130 per night. The pilots submitted Air Safety reports and samples to identify the source of the illness, prompting British Airways to review their accommodation options in Hyderabad.
British Airways stated that crew welfare is a primary concern and they are investigating the incidents. The airline emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew was never at risk during the flight. They reiterated their commitment to prioritizing safety in all operations.
