“Olympic Champ & Vezina Winner Hellebuyck Requests Trade”

Winnipeg Jets’ renowned goalie, Connor Hellebuyck, who boasts an Olympic gold medal and three Vezina trophies, has made a public request for a trade. Speculation about his future has been circulating among hockey enthusiasts and journalists for some time. Hellebuyck disclosed through a statement released by his agent that he had privately asked for a trade from the Jets a few months back.

Expressing his desire to handle the situation discreetly, Hellebuyck mentioned that he had given the organization ample time to consider their options. However, with the upcoming training camp, he felt it necessary to confirm his request publicly. He emphasized that moving forward was the best decision for himself and his family, thanking the Winnipeg Jets fans for their support throughout his career.

The 33-year-old Michigan native achieved a remarkable milestone by being named both the league’s MVP and top goalie after the 2024-25 NHL season, during which the Jets secured the best record in franchise history. Despite Hellebuyck’s plea for a trade, Jets’ general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff provided no updates on the goalie’s future with the team.

Acknowledging Hellebuyck’s desire for a change, Cheveldayoff praised his contributions to the Winnipeg Jets over the years. The team holds immense respect for his accomplishments and is committed to handling the situation thoughtfully. Hellebuyck reflected on his journey with the Jets since being drafted in 2012, expressing his dedication to proving the team’s decision right from the start.

Notably, U.S. President Donald Trump honored Hellebuyck with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his outstanding performance in the Olympic gold-medal game earlier this year. With five Vezina Trophy finalist nominations, Hellebuyck’s legacy in hockey remains illustrious.
