The deadliest attack in Ukraine this year, a Russian strike on a warehouse near Kyiv, has resulted in a death toll of 38, with four individuals still unaccounted for, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The targeted warehouse, believed to be an ammunition storage facility, ignited massive explosions and fires that engulfed numerous nearby residences and structures. Efforts by emergency personnel to extinguish fires and locate and disarm explosive devices at the scene in the village of Myla are ongoing.
President Zelenskyy disclosed that 20 individuals sustained injuries, including two children. He condemned the attack in Myla as a tragic event caused by negligence in storing explosives near civilian populations. An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances that led to the ammunition being stored at that location.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry has announced plans to launch “massive strikes” on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in response to Ukrainian drone operations targeting key Russian entities. The Kremlin has promised a proportional response to what it perceives as Ukraine’s escalation and economic sabotage against Russia.
In recent months, Ukraine has retaliated by targeting Russia’s major online retailer, Wildberries, and oil refineries, resulting in a fuel crisis. The ongoing conflict has exacerbated financial strains on Ukraine’s military operations. Ukraine’s new Defence Minister, Yevhen Khmara, has outlined strategies to address budget shortfalls inherited from his predecessor, emphasizing the importance of securing funding to sustain military capabilities and support soldiers on the front lines.
Additionally, reports indicate that almost 500 Ukrainian drones deployed by Kyiv were intercepted or neutralized by Russian forces, with claims of drone attacks causing a fire at a significant oil refinery in Kirishi, Russia. The situation remains tense, with casualties reported on both sides, underscoring the escalating violence and humanitarian impact of the conflict.
