Prince Harry and Meghan are set to return to the United Kingdom along with their children, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will be relocating to the UK to live as private citizens. Although the exact date of their return was not disclosed, reports suggest it will be in time for their children to commence school in September.
The decision to move back to the UK comes after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal duties in March 2020 and subsequently moved to California following a brief stay in Canada. Their relationship with the Royal Family had soured due to public criticism of the monarchy and the family itself, particularly Harry’s contentious statements about his father and brother, Prince William, which strained their relationship.
In a notable interview on “The Late, Late Show with James Corden” in February 2021, Harry expressed the challenges he faced within the royal environment and his determination to prioritize his family’s well-being. Despite facing changes in security arrangements by the British government, Harry emphasized that he never intended to abandon his responsibilities.
Furthermore, Harry was involved in a lawsuit against The Daily Mail publisher, which he ultimately lost in July. Following the verdict, he condemned the decision as biased and unwarranted, stating that the court had unjustly favored the publication. However, there seemed to be a positive development in his relationship with his father, King Charles, as they reunited after a long period in September, signaling a thaw in their relations. The King welcomed the news of Harry’s intention to relocate the family, expressing a desire to spend more time with the Sussex family in a private capacity.
King Charles, who underwent treatment for cancer in early 2024, showed promising progress, prompting a shift in his medical care to a precautionary phase. The Palace confirmed that the King’s response to treatment was exceptional, indicating a positive outlook on his health.
