Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Czech player Barbora Krejcikova have progressed in the Cincinnati Open tournament. They secured a victory against the fourth-seeded team comprising Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and American Nicole Melichar-Martinez with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 during the Round of 32 in the women’s doubles event on Monday. The match lasted for one hour and 33 minutes.
This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. Their next opponents in the Round of 16 on Tuesday will be the unseeded Czech pair Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova.
Additionally, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, and her partner Sara Errani from Italy secured a victory over Tamara Korpatsch from Germany and British player Emily Webley-Smith. The match lasted for one hour and 29 minutes, with Fernandez and Errani winning 6-2, 7-6 (2) on Monday evening.
Fernandez and Errani dominated the first set, which they won in 31 minutes. However, Korpatsch and Webley-Smith put up a strong fight in the second set, leading 6-5 and serving for the win but ultimately failing to clinch the victory. Fernandez and Errani recorded two aces, 23 winners, one double fault, and only nine unforced errors out of the match’s total of 34. They are set to face Chan Hao-ching from Taiwan and Maya Joint from Australia in the Round of 16.
Fernandez had previously been defeated by Xiyu Wang from China in the second round of the women’s singles event on Sunday.
