150 corgis recently gathered for an international race honoring the small herding dogs that hail from Wales. The event, known as the fifth Corgi Race Vilnius, took place in Vingis Park in the Lithuanian capital, attracting participants from nine countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, the breed’s renowned home country.
Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the event’s growth, noting that from its inception with 40 corgis from one city, this year saw 150 dogs from various nations, including the breed’s place of origin. The competition featured 94 dogs in the main running event, with American corgi GG emerging victorious in the final sprint over 25 meters, closely followed by Mr. Corgington from the U.S. and Lithuania’s Moka.
In addition to the speed race, the event showcased other talents of the corgis and their owners. A costume parade displayed 38 corgis in an array of outfits, while the “smartest nose” challenge saw Latvian corgis Tora and Rusty share the win for finding hidden treats. The loudest bark competition was won by Mr. Corgington, who also competed in major races previously.
The event drew attention not only for the racing aspect but also for the creativity and skills displayed by the corgis and their companions, making it a memorable and entertaining celebration of these beloved dogs.
