Canada’s male and female flag football teams have progressed to the quarterfinals of the world championships in Germany. In the group stage, the men secured a 2-1 record, with a loss to Japan but a win by default against Nigeria. The men’s team will now face American Samoa in the quarterfinals after their victory over the top-ranked U.S. team.
On the other hand, the women’s team finished at the top of their group with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating Japan in their last match. They are set to play against Austria in the quarterfinals, with a potential semifinal match against the winner of Mexico and Spain. Quarterback Sara Parker showcased an impressive performance with four touchdown passes, including two to Caroline Moquin-Joubert.
Additionally, Alexane Fournier, Marianne Quirion, and Frederique Morneau also contributed to the team’s success with touchdown receptions and a rushing touchdown. The event not only aims to determine the world champion but also offers the opportunity for teams to secure spots in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, marking the sport’s debut on the Olympic program.
