Major disruptions in rail services are affecting Greater Manchester, the Midlands, and the North West of England, according to a warning issued by National Rail. The cause of the trouble is an electrical failure at a communications center, leading to train cancellations, delays of up to an hour, and rescheduling of services.
Various train operators including Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express, and Transport for Wales are experiencing service interruptions. National Rail anticipates that the disruptions will persist throughout the day.
East Midlands Railway has issued travel advice, highlighting that Macclesfield is currently not being served due to the ongoing disruption. Passengers with canceled services can opt to travel on alternate Avanti West Coast services close to their original booking time.
During this disruption, off-peak ticket restrictions have been eased. Those affected by delays or cancellations can request a full refund from the ticket retailer. Northern and TransPennine Express have advised customers against traveling under the current circumstances.
Passengers of Northern can use their tickets on additional services without extra charges, including Advance and Peak services. Similarly, TransPennine Express customers have the flexibility to use their tickets in both directions on specified services.
