Next Raises Profit Forecast Third Time in 2026

Next, a leading fashion retailer, has raised its profit forecast for the third time this year following a significant increase in sales driven by a surge in demand during the recent heatwave. Sales surged by 9.2% in the 13-week period ending in early August, surpassing the projected 4% growth and resulting in an additional £70 million in revenue. The company now anticipates annual sales to exceed £6 billion, with profits expected to climb by over 7% to £1.24 billion.

In the UK, sales rose by 2.8%, with online shopping spearheading the growth while store sales experienced a decline. Additionally, online international sales witnessed a remarkable 37% year-on-year increase, as reported in the latest investor update.

Next attributed this exceptional performance to warmer-than-expected weather in the UK, particularly in June and July, along with increased investment in effective marketing campaigns. The company also highlighted a release of pent-up demand in the Middle East and Northern Europe following a sluggish start to the year in those regions.

The ongoing Iran conflict has impacted Next’s overseas operations, with the Middle East constituting about 6% of the company’s annual sales. In response, Next plans to implement price hikes of up to 8% in certain international markets to counteract the effects of the conflict.

Market analysts and industry experts have lauded Next’s strategic decisions, with shares rising by 7% in early trading. The company, with over 800 stores in the UK and Ireland and a thriving online presence, has seen its stock value increase by 19% in 2026.

Richard Hunter from Interactive Investor commended Next for consistently surpassing expectations and upgrading profit forecasts. He emphasized the company’s market acumen and ability to seize new opportunities, particularly in the international sector.

Chris Beauchamp of IG highlighted the importance of Next’s profit forecast upgrades in today’s dynamic business landscape. These positive developments in retail sales coincide with increased consumer spending on items like air conditioning and clothing, as confirmed by official data.

The upbeat consumer sentiment, indicated by both sales data and consumer surveys, has been buoyed by positive expectations surrounding political leadership changes, despite concerns over geopolitical tensions.
