Greek authorities are actively investigating the death of a Scottish woman whose body was discovered concealed in a suitcase within an abandoned building. The victim, identified as Elisabeth-Jane Ross, aged 38, was found by a homeless individual in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens on July 18. Prior to this discovery, Elisabeth, also known as Lisa, had gone missing on July 15, with police speculating that she may have been deceased for approximately eight days before being found.
Law enforcement officials have reported that a post-mortem examination is currently underway, with expedited toxicology tests being conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the British woman’s demise.
Further updates from the Greek police indicate that no fingerprints or DNA evidence have been traced on the suitcase in which Lisa’s body was located. Konstantina Dimoglidou, a police spokesperson, emphasized the meticulousness of the individual responsible for leaving the suitcase, stating, “Our priority is to unravel the identity of the person who abandoned the suitcase. This individual took care to avoid leaving any fingerprints or DNA.”
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of Elisabeth’s death and have refrained from confirming whether the case has been designated as a homicide investigation. However, a police representative mentioned that test results could be available in the coming days.
In a related development, a homeless man known as ‘Markos,’ who frequented the area where Lisa’s body was discovered, has been labeled as the prime suspect by Greek police. Markos, described as a drug user and heavy drinker in his forties with a history of aggression, has been missing from the vicinity since the discovery of the victim’s body.
Elisabeth had traveled to Greece on June 29 via Cyprus after arriving from the United States. She had been residing in the Keratsini area of Athens with Greek companions, who have been ruled out as suspects. Prior to her disappearance, Lisa had informed her friends of her plan to visit “American friends” in Kypseli.
Additionally, authorities are actively working to identify these purported American acquaintances of Elisabeth. A police spokesperson stated, “We are currently trying to ascertain the identity and existence of the individuals she intended to meet in Kypseli, whether they are American, and where she resided during her visit.”
This unfolding investigation has garnered significant attention as authorities strive to unravel the mystery surrounding Elisabeth-Jane Ross’s tragic demise.
