Hundreds of individuals gathered in a touching ceremony to honor a mother and her two daughters who were discovered deceased at their residence. The emotional memorial service for Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, aged 42, along with her daughters, Natalie aged 15, and Nala aged 5, took place at Bedford’s Corn Exchange, attended by close to 500 mourners. At an inquest that commenced on Tuesday, it was disclosed that Zandile succumbed to head injuries, while both Natalie and Nala perished due to blunt force head injuries.
Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, aged 45, is currently detained in South Africa following his arrest in Johannesburg on suspicion of the murder of his wife and two daughters. The service united family members, friends, coworkers, and educators who shared anecdotes of the trio and honored the lives they led.
During the service, Zandile’s cousin, Michelle Ncube, addressed the attendees, expressing the profound sorrow felt by their loved ones. She remarked on Zandile’s exceptional qualities, highlighting her humor, intelligence, and passion for gardening. Michelle emphasized Zandile’s unwavering dedication to her daughters and how everything she did was motivated by their future well-being.
Additionally, a message from Zandile’s sister in Zimbabwe was relayed to the assembly, underscoring the irreplaceable void left by their tragic loss. The tribute continued with heartfelt words from Bedford Girls’ School headmistress Gemma Gibson, reminiscing about Natalie’s warm smile and kind nature, while Nala’s teacher, Nikki Woodworth, praised her for her affectionate hugs.
The commemoration was orchestrated by Jabu Ncube, a close acquaintance of Zandile for two decades, who grappled with finding words to articulate the inexplicable tragedy. Colleagues from Forensic Risk Alliance in London, where Zandile was part of the forensic data analytics team, also paid respects to her exceptional professionalism and dedication to her work.
Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma was apprehended in Johannesburg on July 10 for an unlicensed firearms offense after fleeing the UK. He appeared in court facing charges of illegal possession of firearms. The British extradition request will be evaluated by South African courts, with The Crown Prosecution Service sanctioning three murder charges against him.
The funerals for Zandile, Natalie, and Nala are scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe in the upcoming week.
