She also issued a formal apology for a past tweet where she referred to the Israeli Defense Forces as the ‘Jewish Defence Force,’ recognizing the hurt caused by the conflation of actions and communities.
Joani Reid voluntarily suspended herself from the Labour whip after her husband was arrested on suspicion of spying for China. While not personally implicated in any wrongdoing, Reid chose to abstain from her role as a Labour MP until the investigation surrounding her husband concluded.
Reid, the granddaughter of trade unionist Jimmy Reid, expressed her excitement about rejoining the Parliamentary Labour Party and her commitment to supporting the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, and renewing Scottish Labour.
