A woman from Scotland was discovered deceased inside a suitcase that had been abandoned at a vacant building in Greece. The body of the 38-year-old woman was found by a homeless individual in the Kypseli area of Athens on July 18. The woman, believed to be of Scottish origin, had passed away around eight days prior to the discovery.
Authorities revealed that there were no apparent signs of injury or struggle on the body. Despite police presence at the scene, the woman could not be identified as she did not have any identification on her person. Descriptions of the woman indicate that she was approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, had reddish hair tied in a bun, and was wearing a T-shirt and black shorts with a French university emblem.
An upcoming autopsy, as reported by the Daily Record, is scheduled to provide further insights into the case. Greek officials have enlisted the help of Interpol and US investigators to aid in the investigation. Interpol recently informed the Hellenic Police that DNA testing confirmed the woman was of British nationality.
The woman had traveled to Greece from the US via Cyprus on June 29. Her identity remains undisclosed by the authorities. Police are currently interviewing individuals who may have had contact with the woman before her demise and are working to trace her movements leading up to the incident. At this point, no suspects have been identified in connection with the case.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland stated that they are in communication with Greek authorities regarding the Scottish woman’s death in Athens and are supporting her family in Scotland. The UK Foreign Office has been reached out to for a comment by The Mirror.
