“100mph Chase: Salford Driver Evades Police in Wild Pursuit”

A motorist hit speeds of 100mph while attempting to evade law enforcement in a harrowing 45-minute pursuit across Salford.

Footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows officers tailing a Nissan Qashqai at approximately 10:30 am as it raced through 30mph zones, mounting curbs, and driving on the wrong side of the road, endangering oncoming traffic.

The driver was witnessed operating the vehicle “recklessly and erratically at high velocities” and refused to pull over, prompting the pursuit, according to the authorities.

A helicopter and 10 police cars joined the chase as the Nissan reached speeds of up to 100mph, navigating through Salford, traveling on the East Lancashire Road, going against traffic, and even passing through an underground supermarket parking lot.

The vehicle was eventually immobilized using a stinger device, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and failure to stop. He is currently detained for interrogation.

A woman sustained minor injuries after her car was struck by the suspect’s vehicle, while an officer suffered a hand injury during the stinger deployment.

Police Sergeant Neil Molloy, from the Specialist Operations Team’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, highlighted the extreme peril posed by such driving behavior, emphasizing the fortunate absence of serious injuries during the chase.

The official statement from GMP stated that officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a Nissan Qashqai reaching speeds of up to 100mph on Salford’s 30mph streets around 10:30 am on July 28, 2026.

Officers from the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit noticed a vehicle being operated dangerously and erratically at high speeds and attempted to stop it. When the driver failed to comply, a pursuit ensued across Salford lasting approximately 45 minutes.

National Police Air Service helicopters were mobilized to support the chase, with a total of 10 police vehicles involved.

During the incident, the car traveled along the East Lancashire Road, drove against traffic at several roundabouts, and passed through an active underground supermarket parking lot during daylight hours.

Minor damage occurred to a police vehicle when the driver reversed into an unmarked police car. A woman sustained injuries when the suspect’s vehicle collided with hers, resulting in her hospitalization for minor injuries.

The pursuit culminated in the successful deployment of a stinger by the officers, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The 36-year-old driver was apprehended on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and failing to stop. He remains in police custody for questioning.

An officer was also hospitalized for a hand injury sustained during the stinger operation.
